Mayan Culture and People
The Mayan culture thrived for nearly two thousand years in what is now Belize, Guatemala, western Honduras, El Salvador and the five Mexican states of Chiapas, Campeche, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and Yucatan. The region occupied by the Maya people had about 193,000 square miles in area and is defined in a cooperative way, as El Mundo Maya (Maya World). The Maya were expert weavers and builders of the temple treasures left behind archaeological sites for many generations to come and admire. These people made a living Maya of hunting, fishing and agriculture. They were a language group, which is one of the largest in the Americas and is divided into some 69 languages, including huasteco, Yucatec, Western Maya, Maya and eastern groups.There brightness in the Mayan culture, which is much appreciated especially in the area of architecture and decoration of their city. These Mayan cities were the center of power of king-priests who administered the respect, honor and work of people who believe in them.The growth of Mayan culture and the city has developed at different times.
