Van Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary in Rajasthan
Van Vihar Ramsagar and wildlife reserves of the former rulers of Dholpur spread over an area of 59.86. square kilometers have been reported as wildlife sanctuaries by the Government of Rajasthan, in 1955 AD. Van Vihar is about 18 km from Dholpur and Ramsagar is another 18 km from Van Vihar. As a matter of fact, there are two wildlife sanctuaries separately. Van Vihar, which is Vindhyan plateau supports a stunted tree in the open and dhok Khair. It is inhabited by animals like sambhar, Chital, Blue Bull, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, hyenas and leopards. Tigers were in the area until the late sixties. It is said that Maharaj Singh Dholpur Udaibhan had great sympathy for the wild animals of Van Vihar. It is used to feed the hand not only the deer and antelope in the reserve but also animals such as foxes, jackals and birds. There is an old rest house of the forest in Van Vihar.
